Reservation Service Now Closed

What an overwhelming turnout! In just ten hours (10am to 8pm) we have managed to fill up all of the allotted reservation spaces available for The Summer of Sonic 2011 convention! Thank you for helping make this one of the most popular years yet!

We will spend the next couple of days processing the submissions we have received. Due to various circumstances, this process will take around a week to complete, so please don’t worry about not receiving your reservation card right away.

If you were unable to save yourself a space for the event, do not worry – we have taken extra measures this year to accommodate a large number of additional people on the day. Although entry is not guaranteed this way, at least we will be able to allow as many people into the convention as we possibly can.

After processing all of the reservations, we may be able to launch a ‘second round’ of reservations to add to the success of today’s service. This is all dependent on the number of duplicated entries and other bogus reservations we have received today (rest assured though that if you have filled in the form with the correct details, your reservation is safe), so no promises! We will do our utmost best to ensure that all of us can enjoy the event.

Please also note that for the first hour of the convention (9am – 10am), only attendees with reservation cards will be allowed entry. This is to lighten the initial load on the door staff that work so hard to keep you all safe on the day. Those without reservations will be allowed entry after 10am depending on capacity. If you have applied for a reservation card, be sure to exchange it for entry before 1pm on the day, otherwise your reservation becomes void and entry becomes a free-for-all.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to leave a comment in this post. Look forward to seeing you there – won’t be long until you receive your reservation cards!

The Summer of Sonic Reservation Service Now Open (CLOSED)

UPDATE: Reservations are now closed.

Today we are launching our free ‘reservation’ service for those that are travelling from far away and wish to secure a place at The Summer of Sonic convention.

Entry is free, but we want to ensure that everyone who intends to make plans to stay in London can do so without fear of losing a place inside the venue and missing out on the day’s activities. As such, please note that this is a goodwill service only and is not a means of obtaining proof of entry into the Summer of Sonic event.

You can apply for a reservation at this website. Fill in the form, and we will check it over and email you a card which will need to be exchanged at the door for entry. The reservation card alone is not guaranteed proof of entry – it only saves you a place inside the venue, and for four hours after the event’s opening time (between 9am – 1pm).

The Summer of Sonic staff reserve the right to deny you entry if necessary, and you must still read and understand the Terms and Conditions of Entry on acceptance of entry on the day. The Terms and Conditions of Entry will be made available on the Summer of Sonic website ahead of the June 25th event date.

If you’re unable to get a reservation in time, don’t worry – we have taken extra measures to accommodate additional visitors in a pinch, so you may be able to get in on the day. Because we are expecting an overwhelming turnout, however, we highly recommend you apply for a reservation as soon as possible. If you need to add group or family members, you will need to apply each person separately.

We hope you are able to use this service to get peace of mind and secure your travel arrangements for the weekend! Let’s celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary together! See you on June 25th!

Special Guest #3: Nigel Kitching

We’re proud to announce yet another special guest to The Summer of Sonic 2011 convention, ahead of tomorrow’s reservation application launch. Join us in welcoming back Nigel Kitching, the legendary writer and artist for the 1990s official Sonic the Comic series.

Licensed by SEGA and published by Egmont Fleetway, Sonic the Comic was the perfect (and cheap!) way for British fans of the blue blur to get their dose of hedgehog antics. While initial issues back in 1993 played it safe with the license and offered one-issue strips, Kitching was responsible for spicing up the comic’s plot and giving the book its own unique flavour.

The result was a two-part story (Dr. Robotnik sending Sonic the Hedgehog into the near-future and taking over Mobius in his absence) that would set the foundations for an incredible alternate Sonic universe – one that wasn’t shy to veer from the convention set by the official games, but was also intimately respectful of its source material.

Nigel will be present at The Summer of Sonic 2011 to meet with fans and feature in a panel discussing his comic career and his time on Sonic the Comic. With Archie’s Ian Flynn and Tracy Yardley also in attendance, The Summer of Sonic 2011 really is looking like the perfect day for comic book fans!

Ticket/Reservations: OPEN 1ST MAY

So you’re probably wondering when you will be able to register tickets to actually attend Summer of Sonic this year, right? Well, we’re proud to announce when you can do that exactly – Summer of Sonic 2011 Reservations will officially open on Sunday 1st May 2011 at 10AM British Summer Time (GMT +1).

The process will work in a similar fashion to our registration page last year. You’ll need to submit your details into a microsite, after which you’ll be given a code that reserves your place in the venue. For each person in your party, you will need to complete the reservation form an additional time.

Of course, when you reserve your entrance to the Summer of Sonic 2011, you agree to our Terms and Conditions of Entry – which will be made available upon entry and on this website ahead of the event date itself. Obviously, it is a very good idea to read and understand the Terms and Conditions of Entry when it becomes available on the website.

As with past years, we are expecting a massive turnout – and we cannot guarantee that you’ll be able to enter unless you go through this reservation process! The page will only be open for as long as we have guaranteed space as well, so be aware of making reservations as early as possible! We’re aware many of you are travelling from afar – even overseas – to make this event, and we sorely don’t want any of you missing out.

Don’t freak out too much though – we will make as much use of the space we have in the venue as possible, so even if you’re unable to get a reservation ticket you may have a chance to enter if we end up with more space than anticipated.

Here’s a bonus tidbit of info for you guys, while I’m here – the Camden Centre doors will open at 9AM and close at 8PM. That’s eleven hours of concentrated Sonic madness, and our longest ever Summer of Sonic convention! We’ve extended the opening times to accommodate all the crazy stuff we have planned on the stage. Ah, but what exactly? That’s for another time…

Excited? The big day is creeping ever nearer – and being able to reserve your place in the Camden Centre for a fusion blast of Sonic fun will no doubt make it feel all the closer for you! But we haven’t even started announcing our big plans yet! Stay tuned, as always!

Eggstra-ordinary, Super Easter Super Trailer Reveal

[Taken pretty much wholesale from Sonic Wrecks]

Okay, its Easter and we’ve not got anything major to tell you, so instead here’s a small thing we’re going to make a major fuss of.

Since SEGA very kindly announced two games in less than a week I thought we should probably remind everyone about Summer Of Sonic. Considering the amount of people we got by announcing the venue had air conditioning we full expect several thousand people to now want to turn up. Hint: If you don’t get it, this is a rather tongue in cheek announcement.

This trailer is so awesome it could only be topped by a lion, riding a tiger, battling a t-rex that is firing sawn-off shotguns that shoot broadswords. WHICH ARE ON FIRE.

In all seriousness these are confirmed and I have been trying since SOS 09 to get these – we’ll have more news later on about “proper” things. We’re still awaiting the powers that be.

Enjoy.

FAQ: Details On 2011 Entry Costs

Hi guys, as you know Summer Of Sonic has a proud (and perhaps somewhat foolish) history of being totally and utterly free to enter. With this year being so big and with us going all out to secure the best we can get we acknowledge that indeed somethings will be different this year.

So we thought it best to answer the question you all have – how much will it cost you to enter?

Well, we’ve crunched the numbers and I can reveal that it will cost you a grand total of £0.00.

According to the latest rates that works out at $0.00 or €0.00, this may of course change as rates change. Should you require any other currency you can of course check via an online money convertor like Xe.com to change £0.00 into whatever you require.

I know, I know, you’re very disappointed at this fee. Fret not though as there will be various creative ways you CAN spend your money at SOS, and we’ll be revealing these in the coming months.

We hope this knowledge doesn’t distress you too much or put you off.

PS: If you’re ABSOLUTELY determined you want to help out in some way and are angered by this – astonishingly there actually people who are – another option is you can always help out TSS or SW with their hosting and send them some money via PayPal. Each site has a donations link.

It’s An Archie Double Digest: IAN FLYNN Heads To SOS 2011!

After we announced several days ago that Sonic The Hedgehog and Sonic Universe comic series head artist Tracy Yardley would be attending Summer of Sonic 2011 many of you were very excited.

Well I’m pleased to confirm that unless he’s abducted by some sort of anti-comic writer from the twisted world of Moebius, that Archie series head writer Ian “Potto” Flynn will be coming to SOS as well.

Ian, who has been the head writer over at Archie since Sonic the Hedgehog comic issue #160 has graciously squeezed us into his hectic convention calendar.

We’ll have more details soon on yet more guests and some of the activities that’ll be going on at Summer Of Sonic 2011.

FLYNN LIVES!
(The other one!)

Challenger Approaching: A New Guest Has Appeared!

As Summer of Sonic expands so does our ability to appeal to those beyond the borders of Europe, this goes not just for attendees but for guests as well. As I reminded you a little while back, we’ve had more than our share of awesome guests over the last three years.

So it is perhaps somewhat significant that our first confirmed face for Summer Of Sonic 2011 is indeed a newcommer from overseas and becomes our second American-based guest to attend SOS.

He has been involved in the world of Sonic since 2005 and is probably one of only a handful of people outside of SEGA to be able to say their association has been constant durning this time.  He’s worked on all three iterations of the Sonic franchise from Archie Comics and is the main artist for the series.

Ladies and gentlehogs, our first SOS 2011 guest is TRACY YARDLEY!

Tracy will be bringing his wealth of knowledge on all things Sonic to the table and no doubt his wealth of original Archie comic artwork too. He is very excited to come over to the UK and get to meet with everyone at Summer Of Sonic after being introduced to the event last year.

Stay tuned for more details on Tracy’s activities on June 25th and yet more surprises that we have in store for you.

Old Faces… New Faces?

We continue to work diligently away on Summer Of Sonic matters as we piece together all that is necessary to make the best SOS ever.

In fact we’re very sneakily doing all kinds of wheeling and dealing, you know the sort of form; loitering on street corners at night purchasing Sol Emeralds from mysterious individuals wearing dirty mackintoshes and wide brimmed hats.  Arranging clandestine flights and hotel arrangements through our Chao Black Market contacts.

Speaking of people smuggling, Summer of Sonic has managed to coax out more than a few Sonic luminaries out from their hidey-holes in years past.  We’ve made an addition to the About section to remind you of just who those people were and what they did.

You can check out the Previous Guests page here.

Coming soon – your frequently asked questions answered in our… Frequently Asked Questions section and later today you get to find out the identity of our first confirmed guest for Summer Of Sonic 2011!
